Blue Fern Studios Sketch Challenge~!

Good morning and welcome to September! What does September mean for you? For my family, it means hunting season is beginning (my husband is a bear hunting guide and bear hunting season opens today!), the majority of the garden harvesting happens this month, apple season is just around the corner, and so is Fall. Cooler temps, baking, and bring on the holidays because HERE they come!

This is the busiest time of the year for me and it doesn't slow down until after Christmas. It's also the time that we start scrambling to prepare for winter because from here on out, you just never know when the white stuff (a.k.a. SNOW) is going to fly!

But guess what? I can stop rambling to you here and save you the details...because I've finally slapped together a makeshift blog for my hobby farm life- if you like hearing my tales, you can read much more about them HERE at my Yellow Birch Hobby Farm blog :). I understand that many of you like to come to a scrappy blog and hear nothing but scrap, right? But some of you like the details behind the designer, and you can get more of those details at my new blog. Not that I'll stop sharing here- although I DO try to keep it at minimum ;). Just thought I'd do a little shameless plug to try and get my new blog off the ground ;)

OKAY! Back to business. It's time for a new sketch challenge at Blue Fern Studios- and can you believe it- I played along this month. What's even BETTER is that BFS has teamed up with 7 Dots Studio and the teams have had a swap! Meaning the BFS team will be using 7 Dots products on their projects this month and the 7 Dots team will be featuring BFS products. Pretty cool!

"La-la-la-la-Lola"
So...I just couldn't help myself on the title. This little chickie is my favorite hen in my flock. Her name (obviously) is Lola and she is the sweetest little princess. She entertains a pretty serious love affair with my head rooster Rusty...I even "caught" them in the nest box together the other day. And since roosters certainly do not lay eggs...he really had no business in that nest box ;)! Lol- it gave me a good laugh, that's for sure! ;)

But enough about chickens (you can read all about them at my new blog LOL- seriously, I'm laughing at my promotion as it feels kinda funny)- here's the sketch this month over at BFS:

As always, feel free to flip/turn/mirror the sketch to suit you. I've rotated this sketch one turn to the right.

I've used a few of the newer BFS chipboard pieces here. Above is the Spring Branch, and in the bottom right I've used a couple of sprigs from the All Natural Set. All just gorgeous pieces!!

From 7 Dots Studio I've used the Messy Head collection by Olga Heldwein, which you know very well by now how much I love! :)

Products Used:

Spring Branch

All Natural Set

"Delightful Friend"~ March Prima PPP

Hello everyone :). We've reached the end of the work week in my part of the world and I'm so excited to have my husband home at noon today and be here through Sunday. Lots of Easter goodies planned and a ham supper for the big day- cannot wait! So I thought I'd share with you my entry for the March Prima PPP before the holiday is completely upon us; I hope you enjoy it :).

"Delightful Friend"
This layout is a little bit different for me- in subject matter, that is. I'm sure you're used to seeing my work featuring the sweet smiling faces of my kids and nieces/nephews. I just have so many gorgeous pictures of my usual subjects that photos like this one get brushed aside. But for this project I decided to do something a little different- and focus on the "smaller" things in life- like this delightful little friend of mine :).

Here is the inspirational palette behind my design:
Green is my favorite color so I just couldn't resist this one! So many gorgeous options to choose from- and with a fresh stock of new Prima product, I was good to go!

I don't think I have words to describe how much I adore Ingvild Bolme's resins (anyone else wishing we'd had some new ones released this past CHA? Maybe summer CHA??)! I've lightly colored this piece with her new Pastel Green Chalk Edger pad before taking the clock hands from the Blue Fern Studios "Floral clock" piece and simply adding some microbead clusters and some Prima bling.

Flower clusters are such a joy for me to create. I love selecting the perfect blend of colors and placing them exactly where they belong.

This beautiful fellow came to visit a few times, staying for nearly 20 minutes at a time which allowed me the chance to take lots of photos of him and the kids the opportunity to watch him in awe!
The dictionary page is from an old English/French dictionary from the earlier part of the 20th century. Can't remember the date off the top of my head- but I remember feeling guilty the first time I tore into it. I LOVE anything old- but as long as I can use it to preserve memories and I can enjoy it in a different way- then I'm okay with it :).

I'm loving stamps at the moment. I used the "Delightful" stamp from the "Lyric" Cling Mounted Rubber Stamp Set to aid in my title work.

The beautiful chipboard piece peeking out from underneath it all is from the Blue Fern Studios "Double Dutch Flourish Set". Such a cool piece~!

As always, thanks for coming over today. I appreciate you all! And I hope you have a wonderful Easter holiday :)~!

Take care,

Creating With Sketches: Vol 2: "Puppy Love"

Hey fellow scrappers! How are you? I myself have been QUITE busy. But I definitely wanted to share with you a layout that I created for the Creative Scrappers "Creating With Sketches: Vol 2" eBook by Kristine Davidson. After taking part in Vol 1 last year, I knew I just had to join in on this one too! Lots of scrappy friends in this publication as well and I'm so happy that Kristine wanted me to be a part of it :).

Here is what I created:

"Puppy Love"
Another great photo of Gunner playing with our dog Luxor :)

Let's take a closer look:

I loved using the yellow/orange mist against the colors of the Kaisercraft "75 Cents" & "Pickled Pear" papers. Gorgeous! And you can see I put my microbeads to work again as water for my bird bath :).

Delicious combo of Prima flowers :)

A closer look at my masking and layers, and of course the beautiful "Village Sign Post" chipboard piece from Blue Fern Studios :)

I first used my "Coffee Shop" Glimmer Mist from Tattered Angels and misted the entire piece. Then blotted quickly with a napkin. I then stamped, embossed, and added microbeads. Voila!

If you would like to get a copy of Creating With Sketches: Vol 2, you can head on over to the Creative Scrappers store HERE. It is available in both digital and print form. And today I have a coupon code for you for $2 off a digital copy! Just use "CWS2Discount" when placing your order :).

Thanks for stopping by today~! I hope your week is winding down nicely :)

Take care,

"A Great Day" w/Webster's Pages~!

**For my February Giveaway, please go HERE**

Hi everyone :). I'm so happy you checked in today because I've got some Webster's Pages inspiration for you, featuring one of their newest releases, New Beginnings~! So let's take a look, shall we?

"A Great Day"
This is a photo of Gunner and our Chihuahua, Luxor, taken last summer. My kids all love animals- and all of them really do so great with them. They've never had that "grab and pull" instinct that most kids seem to have when contacting animals. They have always been so gentle :).

Along with the New Beginnings papers, I've incorporated the die cut paper from the Sunday Picnic collection. I have a habit of stashing these beautiful die cut papers and not using them- so I thought it was time to put this one to use as it coordinated so well with New Beginnings :).

I combined some fussy cutting and die cutting on this layout. What I love so much about Webster's Pages papers are there are always so many images to choose from and mix together. Makes creating even that much more fun~!

The XOXO and LOVE details were cut from some of the *new* washi tapes offered by Webster's Pages. I used one of the rolls from the New Beginnings Washi Tape Set.

The hearts on the tree here were also cut from the same roll of washi tape.

This stunning chipboard gate is new from Blue Fern Studios. I first painted it with gesso before simply covering it with this beautiful pale blue ink courtesy of the brand new Pastel Blue Chalk Edger Pad from Prima :).

Thanks for coming over today! Take care :),
