7 Dots Studio: "Memories" Challenge

It's time to reveal the newest challenge over at 7 Dots Studio. And this time around, it's all about the "Memories"...however you would like to interpret that...whatever it inspires.

For me, it triggered the need to scrap about my dad. Most of you know that I lost him when I was 13 years old and it is a loss which I still struggle with to this day...and never gets easier. But taking the time to scrap about him gives me the opportunity to reflect on my memories of him; the type of person he was, his funny personality, what a great dad he was- despite his downfalls. I try my best to hold on to the good memories and cultivate them so that I can one day share them with my children...

"Remember Forever"
I found comfort in the warm, rich fall colors inspired by the changing season upon us. Red is most certainly not my usual color, but it was okay here. I accepted it and went forward :)

I began with the Domestic Goddess collection, which I've loved since the day it was released! Such a beautiful line!

I am loving playing with texture and color. So rewarding :)

I've discovered that I love book pages once again. I used to use them all the time...then not at all...and again I find myself reaching for them every time. So watch out...when an obsession strikes, I can't help myself!

Prima "Pin Spin"

Good morning! Today I have a fun project to share with you that I created for the Prima "Pin Spin" day. What we do here is find a pin on Pinterest and draw inspiration from it. Being a lover of Pinterest, this one was no problem whatsoever ;). I have a "Pretty Things that Inspire" board where I pin photos of varoius things that I feel might come in handy if ever I'm in a creative rut. So I headed right for that board and was inspired to create this canvas for my daughter :)

"You're Cute"

Here is my inspiration photo from Pinterest:

I was just completely inspired by this GORGEOUS color palette! Brights mixed with pastels- I couldn't think of a better combo. And the balloons encouraged me to add that "something extra" to this canvas that I might not normally do. Just a great all-around jumpstart for me.

I couldn't resist this title. I swear, I say "You're CUTE!" about a thousand times a day in an obnoxious baby voice LOL! Perfect- and I can hear myself saying it when I see this canvas. A great way to capture a memory :).

The balloons were created from cardboard and covered with gesso; masked with modeling paste, watercolors and beads on top. Just hand-cut pieces- no need to be perfect :)

C'est Magnifique Paper & Add-Ons

It's time yet again to take a look at the latest paper & add-ons for the latest kit from C'est Magnifique! Let's start off with a look at the paper that will be in our October Kit.  It's a combination of 7 Dots Studios (Poland) and Tilda (Sweden).  We have featured 7 Dots Studio in past kits, but Tilda is brand new to our kits.  The design team is finding this an awesome pairing.

Kit Paper:

Tilda: Summer Blues Collection: 8 Sheets double-sided paper
7 Dots Studio: 9th Wave: Sea Foam
7 Dots Studio: 9th Wave: Deep Water
7 Dots Studio: 9th Wave: Wavy Ocean
7 Dots Studio: 9th Wave: Golden Sand
7 Dots Studio: 9th Wave: Stormy Sea
7 Dots Studio: 9th Wave: Coral Reef
We have listened and this month have increased the number of Add-ons we have available.  Each month we put together both an embellishment add-on and a flower add-on. We currently have both add-ons available in our Store.   The October kit has an awesome amount of double-sided pattern paper (14 sheets!) so our add-ons are designed to give you even MORE embellishments to work with.

Embellishment Add-on:

 Flower Add-on:

Petaloo: Canterbury Naturals: Blue/Amethyst
Petaloo: Mixed Blossoms: Antique Gold
Manor House Gelato: Cherry
Manor House: Everlasting
Manor House Vine: White
Manor House: Lotus: Fuchsia
If you would like to purchase our October Kit, please visit our JOIN page for all the details.  If you're already a kit member and want to make sure you get one or both of our October Add-ons, please head over to the Store and get them before they're gone.  Several of the add-on items are available for sale individually in our Store and we have provided a link for these items.

Stay tuned for my projects using the October kit :)!

Prima ArtZine {August Issue} Projects

Hello everybody :). It's been a little quiet around here, yes I know. We're still busy, busy at home- new animals, hunting season, canning, the works- but I thought I'd pop in here and share the two projects that I had published in the August issue of the Prima ArtZine.

First up, a layout that I created for CHA using the popular Anna-Marie Collection:

"Daydream"
The color palette was inspired by the August PPP which was perfect for using this collection. I loved how the black and white photos looked against these bright colors. All of the papers, flowers, stamps, mask, embellishments {except the title stickers}- they are all from the Summer CHA 2013 release.

7 Dots Studio: An Art Journal Page

Good morning :)

Here today with you to share an art journal page I created for 7 Dots Studio, using the classic "Dreamer" collection. I used to be quite good at drawing in my younger years but admittedly haven't touched the art for quite some time now. But inspired by a beautiful photo found on Pinterest HERE, I found the courage to draw again and even embark on some watercolor painting.

I had no design in mind, nor did I ever think this page would find its way onto the internet. I didn't know what I was doing. But when I used the "Dreamer" collection papers to bring the trunk in the page to life, I just knew I had to be brave...just show it.

So here goes.

"Mason Jars" Art Journal Page
It was a little tricky getting the papers to line up correctly and look believable, but a little bit of adjustments and I got there :)

Gosh, I just LOVE the rustic, life-like patterns of these papers. I could not have found a more suitable collection for bringing this aspect of my page to life. Just meant to be! I did use some burlap twine to define the edges of the trunk in the front, along with some watercolor shading. I really had to distress, move, and shape these papers to get them to do what I wanted.

The angles were tough on me! And choosing the correct colors for the edges of the box took a moment as well.

And boy, I struggled with bringing the mason jars to life being a "flat" object against the three-dimensional paper trunk. Lots of shading, recoloring, tinting, etc.- it came together...slowly. Frustrating but at the same time exciting and encouraging!

Thank-you for allowing me ot share with you today. I hope you're having a wonderful week so far :)
Take care and see you REAL soon!

C'est Magnifique September Sketch Challenge

Hi blog readers!  We are happy to bring you another sketch challenge this month, once again created by our awesome sketch designer, Michele Singh.  She has pulled in a couple of elements from our beautiful September Kit, but don't worry if you don't have the kit, everyone is welcome to participate in our sketch challenge.

Now it's YOUR turn to create a layout using our sketch.  Our Sketch Challenge is open to everyone and you may use any supplies you have on hand.  You do not need to be a member of our kit club to participate.  Feel free to flip or rotate the sketch, but we do want to be able to look at your layout and tell that you used the sketch.
We will be awarding two prizes.  The winners will be selected by a random draw.  The first prize is this beautiful assortment of paper and embellishments that we have put together.  The winner of this prize package will also be able to shop in the C'est Magnifique Store, and have their purchases sent with the prize package, so that means you won't have to pay for shipping.

Our second prize, a $10 gift certificate to the C'est Magnifique Store,  will be awarded randomly to one of our participants who obviously uses one of our kits to create their Sketch Challenge layout.
We will also chose 5 (or maybe more) layouts to feature on our blog!
You have the entire month of September to submit your layout.

What do you have to do to enter our sketch challenge?

1.  You must be a follower of the C'est Magnifique blog.  It's easy to become follower -see the left sidebar.

Blue Fern Studios Sketch Challenge~!

Good morning and welcome to September! What does September mean for you? For my family, it means hunting season is beginning (my husband is a bear hunting guide and bear hunting season opens today!), the majority of the garden harvesting happens this month, apple season is just around the corner, and so is Fall. Cooler temps, baking, and bring on the holidays because HERE they come!

This is the busiest time of the year for me and it doesn't slow down until after Christmas. It's also the time that we start scrambling to prepare for winter because from here on out, you just never know when the white stuff (a.k.a. SNOW) is going to fly!

But guess what? I can stop rambling to you here and save you the details...because I've finally slapped together a makeshift blog for my hobby farm life- if you like hearing my tales, you can read much more about them HERE at my Yellow Birch Hobby Farm blog :). I understand that many of you like to come to a scrappy blog and hear nothing but scrap, right? But some of you like the details behind the designer, and you can get more of those details at my new blog. Not that I'll stop sharing here- although I DO try to keep it at minimum ;). Just thought I'd do a little shameless plug to try and get my new blog off the ground ;)

OKAY! Back to business. It's time for a new sketch challenge at Blue Fern Studios- and can you believe it- I played along this month. What's even BETTER is that BFS has teamed up with 7 Dots Studio and the teams have had a swap! Meaning the BFS team will be using 7 Dots products on their projects this month and the 7 Dots team will be featuring BFS products. Pretty cool!

"La-la-la-la-Lola"
So...I just couldn't help myself on the title. This little chickie is my favorite hen in my flock. Her name (obviously) is Lola and she is the sweetest little princess. She entertains a pretty serious love affair with my head rooster Rusty...I even "caught" them in the nest box together the other day. And since roosters certainly do not lay eggs...he really had no business in that nest box ;)! Lol- it gave me a good laugh, that's for sure! ;)

But enough about chickens (you can read all about them at my new blog LOL- seriously, I'm laughing at my promotion as it feels kinda funny)- here's the sketch this month over at BFS:

As always, feel free to flip/turn/mirror the sketch to suit you. I've rotated this sketch one turn to the right.

I've used a few of the newer BFS chipboard pieces here. Above is the Spring Branch, and in the bottom right I've used a couple of sprigs from the All Natural Set. All just gorgeous pieces!!

From 7 Dots Studio I've used the Messy Head collection by Olga Heldwein, which you know very well by now how much I love! :)

Products Used:

Spring Branch

All Natural Set

For full details and prize info, be sure to visit the Blue Fern Studios September Sketch Challenge post HERE

Thanks for coming on over! Have a wonderful day :)
