Webster's Pages: Growing Up Girl!

I thought it would be fun to do a mid-day post featuring one of my favorite Webster's Pages collections:

"Growing Up Girl"

And I'm on a bit of a card/tag making streak, if you hadn't noticed ;). Just loving the smaller projects at the moment...AND I ran out of photo black ink for my printer...but that's beside the point! Ha!

I've got a card and two tags for you:

"A Perfect Moment"
The beautiful floral design in the "Embrace Life" paper was just what I needed for this card. Brandin is a genius at designing her gorgeous collections, and she never fails to give us flowers! Love that :)

I've also featured a couple of chipboard pieces from Blue Fern Studios:
Lace Rounds
Mixed Chains

Other:
Flowers, Clock: Prima Marketing
Vintage lace and seam binding

Next, I have a set of tags that I created earlier this month for Webster's Pages, using once again the beautiful Growing Up Girl Collection...

"Today Was So Exciting" Tag

"Stay True" Tag

These tags are great for attaching to gifts for all occasions! Sweet, simple reminders. I follow a pretty basic plan when I set out on my tags (I have a couple of different tutorials under the Tutorials heading of my blog); the most fun part is picking out the patterns and colors that I want to combine, as well as the fun, pretty details to go with them! Here I've used Webster's Pages trims and embellishments to accent these tags, as well as some pretties from Prima such as the flowers and bling.

Thanks for stopping by on this fine afternoon!

See you again soon :)

Two Projects Featuring the NEW Ombré Dreams Collection!

Hello everyone!

I'm checking in today to share a card and a tag that I created using the brand new "Ombré Dreams" paper collection from Blue Fern Studios, as well as some new chipboard pieces too!

"You Make Me Smile"
This paper collection comes just in time for summer- with its fresh, light colors and dreamy patterns, I couldn't wait to start putting it to good use! Here I've created a card using the "Ginger's Dream" paper on top and "Leslie's Dream" for the base. There was just enough design in the upper right-hand corner of the "Ginger's Dream" paper to perfectly compliment the card design I had in mind.

I'm really loving circular pieces and frames at the moment, and this "Treasured Floral Frame" was just what I needed for my card. I took a white Prima Chalk Edger ink pad and used that to mostly cover the piece, leaving just a hint of the raw chipboard to show through. I then wrapped it with white wire cord.

Next, I have a pretty little gift tag for you :)

"Follow Your Dream"
Everyone loves butterflies {including me!}, so I was very excited to see the new "Royal Monarchs" that were recently released! Paired with a set of the {also new} "Layering Stems", I thought the combination suited nicely this particular sentiment.

The butterfly piece was covered with Ranger Glossy Accents and then sprinkled with microbeads. Allow the glossy accents to dry on their own rather than heating them with a heat gun as the glossy accents tend to bubble up and scorch otherwise. The stems were misted with Heidi Swapp Color Shine in "Blush" and, while wet, covered with clear embossing powder and set with a heat gun.

June MMM Kit!

Good morning, everyone :)

It's time for another look at this months Magnifique Mixed Media Kit from C'est Magnifique! Kelly showed you a layout and accompanying video just a little while back {see it HERE if you missed it}, and today I have a layout to share as well.

"Bliss"
As you know, this kit is full of bright, tropical colors! I thought I would go for a fun background using the fabulous Gelatos pack included amongst this month's mediums.

I chose a pretty neutral background paper so the colors would really stand out. And all I did was take a stencil and, with one color at a time, scribbled over the stencil and used my finger to blend in the color over the pattern of the stencil, working in somewhat of a V-shaped pattern over my entire page.

I started with the pink, moved on to the purple, and then the blue (which gave me a darker purple when mixed with the other colors). I loved the succession of coordinating colors that this gave me.

I then set about my clustering and photo layout. I didn't want the color to completely overwhelm my project, so I took advantage of some of the more neutral possibilities in the kit, such as the Jutes flowers, wood pieces, and Blue Fern Studios "Techno Rings" chipboard pieces (leaving them raw).

Here's another look at this month's MMM Kit:

Believe it or not, there are still a few of these left in the store- so get one before they're gone!

Thanks for visiting today!

"Memories" Tag: May MMM Kit

Good morning!

I'm here with you today to share one final look at and farewell to the beautiful and spring-inspired May Magnifique Mixed Media Kit from C'est Magnifique.

"Memories" Tag
The pretty blues and yellows in this kit made for a bright, cheerful tag like this one, and with help from the multitude of Crate Paper die cuts, layering was a breeze- and adorably fun too :)!

I added in some textures with the jute twine and crochet doily to contrast the trendy little die cuts and to pull it all together, using the Cosmo Cricket wood piece to act as a base.

Underneath it all, I've applied masking with modeling paste and the Tim Holtz mask before misting with the Pastel Blue Ayeeda mist. To soften the look, I've added a transparency and then misted (from a distance) the yellow Ayeeda mist over the doily and die cuts so that just a fine splatter of yellow can be seen.

I hope you enjoyed the many looks we've had at this month's mixed media kit.

Thank-you so much for taking a look today!

"Imperfection is Beauty" Canvas: Webster's Pages Growing Up Girl!

"Imperfection is beauty, Madness is genius and it's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring."
- Marilyn Monroe

What a great quote for a mixed media project, right??

The Webster's Pages "Growing Up Girl" collection is not only full of candy-sweet colors, dreamy pastels, and fantastic imagery, but offers up an entire page of fabulous quotes, just like this one! It is what inspired my canvas, to create something beautiful yet messy, pretty but muted in my preferred style. Simple, yet detailed, textured, and layered.

"Imperfection is Beauty" Canvas
I began as I often do by applying some book pages. I then tore strips of paper from the Growing Up Girl collection and applied them as well, before sealing them with gesso. A bit of misting, masking, embossing, more layers, and paint were added.

Some closeups...
The foundation for my quote began with a transparent envelope. I cut the flap from the envelope and adhered the backside of it to my canvas. In it I tucked some paper, one of the new wood ATCs, and some paper punched bits. On top of it I used a raw Blue Fern Studios chipboard film strip piece before adding my embellishments. To the left of the canvas in this photo, you can see I've used one of the new paper straws (also seen on the bottom and right side of my canvas). I simply cut the length I wanted and then used a scissors to cut open lengthwise and then curled it around the edge of my canvas.

Projects like this are great for using up scraps! Here you can see the piece of paper I'd used to punch out my confetti. I tucked it under one of the book pages for some fun texture.
