Once Upon A...Sketch: September Sketch Challenge Reveal!

Good morning!

It's time to reveal to you the latest challenge over at Once Upon A...Sketch!

As you know, every month OUAS provides you with not only an amazing sketch, but a motivating journaling prompt. This month is no different- just take a look at what you've got to work wtih!

Journaling Theme: Luck

Your layout must incorporate this theme and the sketch below.
Please make sure that we see some sort of journalling on your layouts and please tell us where your journalling is . You are allowed to journal in any language but please tell us where on your page we will find your journalling. Remember journalling has to be a bit more than a title, or a generic comment. Hidden journalling is perfectly fine.

I created a layout sample for this challenge. When I first saw the sketch, I thought- OOH! Three photos...three kids...I know how lucky I am to have them. Even printed pictures of the kids and was ready to start. But then I thought of how much time I've spent recently reflecting on what an amazing husband I have- and it's been a while since I've scrapped him, so I went that direction instead ;)

"Lucky Me"
I have the perfect package of a husband: loving, hard working, funny, patient, amazing father, understanding...I really wish for everyone to find someone like him. Before him, I thought it was normal to fight and say terrible things to one another. But in our almost 7 years he has never said anything even remotely mean to me- and I don't even think we've ever had a real "fight". We've bickered a few times- but he is so laid-back (whereas I'm NOT) and when I get piped up, he just stays calm. As I was creating this layout, I had a particular Martina McBride song stuck in my head. There's a line in it that says:

"When there's dark clouds in my eyes, he just sits back and let 'em roll on by. Come in like a lion, go out like a lamb...my baby loves me just the way that I am."

SO true for Josh and I! I'm the hot head- and he accepts and loves me for it regardless.

When choosing the color pop for this layout, I'd originally thought blue. Josh peeked in a few times to see what I'd decided on, and was surprised to see I'd gone with yellow. I figured I haven't used it in a while, so why not?

I've used just a ton of Prima products on this one- even digging in my stash for some of the older stuff. The stamps are from the Printery collection, which is one of my all-time favorites. And what do you think of the new Ingvild Bolme pieces? I just LOVE the little steering wheel from the Car Parts pack- way too adorable!

Oh, Josh desperately wanted me to use one of the spark plug pieces- he thought they were manly enough for him ;) And I wanted to do that for him...but I just couldn't find the "right" one/fit. But when I noticed the word "Luck" on one of the Vintage Water Taps- I knew I had the perfect embellishment!

More from Webster's Pages "Postcards from Paris II"!

Good morning! The week is nearly up- as is the month. Hard to believe! Before we let it end though, I have another project created with the Webster's Pages "Postcards from Paris II" collection. I've thoroughly enjoyed working with this range, and I just know that you will too!

"Sweet"
This photo is of my niece Lilah on her 3rd birthday. I just adore her and her personality :)

I've really taken advantage of the fussy cut-able images in this collection and I've combined and layered them throughout my layout.

"Tres Belle"
"Let Them Eat Cake"
"Take Flight"
"Twilight in Paris"
"Couture"
"Avenue de Champs"

Two More for Blue Fern Studios

Hello :) I'm back again today with my other two projects for Blue Fern Studios, so let's get started!

"Natural Beauty"
Many of you probably recognize this gorgeous little girl as my sister's daughter Lilah. She truly is a natural beauty- lucky thing! :) This layout was inspired by the photo and title piece and I went from there.

Wanting to keep the chipboard at least partially raw, I went for a brown and pink color scheme, which I love. My background paper was just what I needed- a sheet from the 7 Dots Studio "Messy Head" collection. From there I mixed and matched some Prima papers & canvas, as well as some sheets from the Messy Head 6x6 Designer Pad.

For the Graduated Circles piece, I applied a bit of gesso before sprinkling on some Shimmerz Enamelz in Fake Bake. This is my first time using this stuff (Leslie did a special order for us over at C'est Magnifique) and I really love it.

My title piece is from the All Natural Set. Just a little bit of gesso was all it needed!

And aren't these new Berry Stems just adorable? I love them :) Perfect for sticking into your clusters! And with 6 in a package, they are easy to stretch out over a few different projects.

For my second project, I have a tag:

"Friends" Tag
Do you ever start out on a project and decide Hey, I'm going to do something different. And then you immediately say Oh, now WHY did I do that?! That is what happened here. I thought it would be a good idea to use some red...with black...and gold...which is just not my go-to color combo. At first, I was not happy with that decision. Immediately I wanted to toss it and go for a color scheme more inside my comfort zone. But I stuck to it and I'm okay with it now ;)

I again used some Enamelz here because I was really having fun with the stuff. I've also used a transparency from the Webster's Pages "Royal Christmas" collection to back my Ironwork Accents chipboard piece. It made adding my title SO easy :)

I think I mentioned at one time my Prima Corine stash. Well, I've started using them again...I'm learning to let go ;). I don't often use red, so this red Corine came in handy! And isn't that Prima flair button just perfect? I love it. It's from the new Everyday Vintage collection.

That completes my post today! I just wanted to thank those of you who always take the time to come over and see what I've been up to. I cannot even express to you HOW busy I've been- between the kids, the garden, the berries, the canning, the bear baiting, the extra jobs I've taken in the past two weeks to cover for a friend, the preparing for my first Kindergartener to go to school, preparing for my daughter's 2nd birthday, the HEAT...I could go on and on....I'm just a bit swamped and haven't had much time at all to return the kindness I've been shown by those of you who have left the nicest comments for me...seriously, SERIOUSLY...THANK you! I truly enjoy reading each and every one.

Bless you all :) Take care...

Blue Fern Studios: Art Journal Page

Hey everyone :)
Here we are at the end of the month, and of course it's busy isn't it? Lots of projects to share and just not enough time ;)

It's my turn today over at the Blue Fern Studios blog, and I will be sharing my projects over the next couple of days. Today I'm showing you my next art journal page, which again took me outside my comfort zone and forced me to try some new things in experimenting with the more "flat" look which goes a bit against my usual style. But I believe that we need to expand our interests, never stop learning, and just continue to grow any way we can.

"Live" Art Journal Page
I must admit, I HATED this when I first started working on it. Those circles were a nightmare, lol! But thankfully, watercolors are forgiving- and I just kept adding more water and working on them and they slowly became bearable ;)

I drew in the circles by hand before applying the watercolors. I then used a stamp sent to me by my sweet friend Patter Cross to accent the circles.

I love this quote- and I think it's a great reminder to us all not to get caught up in the daily grind and take the time to actually live our lives. And the photo of Wyatt that I included just makes me smile- I wish we could all be as happy and carefree in our lives as he is!

I've used a couple of the Blue Fern Studios Manor Hinges to accent my pages. They've been primed with gesso and stamped before being painted with some watercolors and embossed with some gold embossing enamel.

Thanks for coming over again today :)
See you back with my other two projects for Blue Fern tomorrow...see you then!

7 Dots Studio: "You're Special"

Good morning everyone :) I hope your week is off to a great start!

I'm kicking off my Monday with a canvas that I created for 7 Dots Studio, with a masculine take on the beautiful new Messy Head collection by Olga Heldwein.

"You're Special"
This super handsome guy is of course my oldest, Wyatt. I took this photo on his last day of Preschool and he has just GROWN so much over the past year! In just 9 days, he will enter Kindergarten. So hard to believe that I'm the mom of a school-age child. Just crazy!

I tackled the blues and browns in this collection and just love how they came together :)

Plenty of goodies tucked here and there! I've used a Memory Box die to cut the frames behind my photo, using some papers from the Messy Head 6x6 Designer Pad.

The heavy weight of 7 Dots Studio papers makes playing with mediums a lot of fun! So nice to have papers that will stand up to whatever you throw at it ;)
